Last night, BET hosted the 6th annual Hip Hop Awards, an award show that showcases the talents of the industry’s best rappers, producers and music video directors. Actor/comedian Mike Epps hosted the event, which gives out awards such as Music Video of the Year and Producer of the Year.

Cyphers are a crucial part of the show and are one of the main things that viewers anticipate each year. A group of rappers get together and rap over the same beat for about 6 or 7 minutes — sometimes freestyling or sometimes rapping rhymes they’ve already written. It’s a great way for new rappers to make a name for themselves on television and a great way for long-time rappers to show fans that they still have it.

Eminem is a perfect example of the latter. His freestyle last night on the Shady 2.0 Cypher proved to the rap world that Marshall Mathers is still one of the greatest rappers of all time. Intricately woven metaphors and similies, a trademark of his style, were all showcased in the cypher and the crowd’s wooing and cheers were audible throughout the entire rap.

Although the cyphers are the most interesting part of the night, awards were also handed out. Below is the list of winners.
