The Eli Young Band has played in Columbia at least 10 times, but this time they are sold out. For those who don’t have tickets to Thursday’s show, Vox has a one-on-one with bass guitar player Jon Jones.

How have previous shows at The Blue Note in Columbia gone?

The Blue Note is always a very fun place for us to play. It’s a perfect mix of college bar and theater setting that really helps the crowd get into the concert. We played there on Halloween a few years ago in full Star Wars costumes. That was a night we will never forget.

Do you have an idea of songs you’ll be playing yet?

Right now we are trying to figure out the best mix of songs from our new record as well as songs that have been mainstays on our set for many years. We usually throw a cover song or two in the set as well. There should be something for everyone.

Do you have a lucky charm that you take on stage with you?

My brother-in-law is in the army and they have their coins, which denote rank. When he became leader of his squadron, he got to design his own coin. I carry his coin on the front of my base rig every night.

What are you most looking forward to about this show?

We look forward to the energy from the crowd.  It’s a venue where we can really interact and have fun with our fans.
