If you’ve never heard of PACE, or Performing Arts in Children’s Education, you’re missing out on a whole sector of Columbia’s theater scene. In 2003, PACE was created as a youth theater company that hoped to get children involved in all aspects of a theater production including performances, theater management and theater production and only children from age 4 to 18 are able to be a part of PACE’s productions. One of the goals of the organization is that alumni from PACE will eventually give back to the theater community of Columbia and beyond, and this performance proves that goal has become a reality.
On April 19, 20, 21 and 22, PACE will be performing Oliver! at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts. This performance is special to the organization because every single person involved in Oliver! went through the organization as either a child or teenager. Many of these alumni are currently in college or involved with Columbia’s performing arts community in one way or another.
Oliver! will tell the traditional tale of Oliver Twist from the Broadway musical. If you are going to attend the performance on April 19, the money raised from the show will go toward the Buddy Pack Program at Central Missouri Food Bank.
