Columbia eatery Smokin Chicks BBQ won the Grand Champion award for smoked jerky at Hermann Wurstfest on March 24, the first time the restaurant has entered the jerky in the contest.
Chick Orscheln, Smokin Chicks BBQ owner, has used the recipe personally for several years but began selling it in the restaurant about six months ago after providing samples for customers and receiving glowing reviews.
Company Vice President Lissa Gaw-Orscheln says the jerky retains its flavor because it’s marinated and then smoked on the outdoor smoker. She says the product is available in 3-ounce packages or larger amounts by specific order.
