Love

Retired musicians Anne and Georges live in an absolutely beautiful house decked with books and a beautiful grand piano. Anne has a stroke and their utopian love story is tested. Very, very touching.

Watch this if you:
- are tired of terrible romance screenwriting, or
- you really like The Piano Teacher (2002).

On the Road

I’m torn about this one because there are two actresses with similar names that are inherently annoying, Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst (to the realization Eliza). BUT, the trailer looks awesome. It’s adapted from a Jack Kerouac cult classic novel and it has a bunch of really great cast members: Terrence Howard, Elizabeth Moss, Viggo Mortensen, Alice Braga (Sonia Braga’s daughter, if you like Dona Flor and her Two Husbands) and Steve Buscemi. I love Steve Buscemi, by the way, and I think everyone else should too.

Watch this if you:
- are a huge fan of Walter Salles (Central Station, Motorcycle Diaries and Linha de Passe), or
- you are a sucker for Bella Swan.

Cosmopolis

I hope this is not one of those trailers that ruins the movie, but I’m sold. There are strong Enter the Void undertones in the trailer. However, I’m not sure if that will be the case for the movie itself. Oh, what is up with the Twilight cast plaguing Cannes this year? But I can forgive Robert Pattinson this time because he looks good in his OCBD that’s ridiculously and perfectly pressed in almost every scene.

Watch this if you:
- like Edward Cullen (you saw that coming, didn’t you?), or
-  enjoyed A Dangerous Method.

Lawless

Gary Oldman, Alice of Umbridge Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hardy (swoons), Jessica Chastain and Shia LeBeouf star in this screenplay based on novel The Wettest Country in the World by Matt Bondurant. The story is about the author’s grandpa and granduncles (the Bondurant brothers) who were bootleggers during prohibition. The trailer looks reaaaally good. I’m sold.

Watch this if you:
- are a Boardwalk Empire fan, or
- think anything with Guy Pearce typecast as a villain is good.

Rust and Bone

Marion Cotillard is the best english-speaking french actress in the world. Hands down. The Guardian did a great review on it, although they kinda ruined the story there for you.

Watch this if you:
- love orcas, emotional and de-romanticized French love stories, women in wet T-shirts, or
- love stories about dysfunctionally functional families and relationships.

Moonrise Kingdom

Do I really have to convince you here? Wes Anderson. Period.

Watch this if you:
- love the signature colors, cast, cinematography and dry humor in Wes Anderson movies, or
- are obsessed with Wes Anderson movies because it’s cool to say you do.

The Taste of Money

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0P_J8IriN4

Don’t watch if you think the sight of boobs is too erotic for your liking because there will be a lot of boobs. This is the sequel to The Housemaid where Na-mi is all grown up. Watch The Housemaid on Netflix, if it’s still even there.

Boy wants to be with Na-mi. Na-mi is rich as hell because of her family. Na-mi’s mom wants to be with boy(toy). Boy is grossed out because Na-mi’s mom is really old. Na-mi’s mom’s husband, who married her for money, wants to run away with the Filipina housemaid. Boy has a hot body but is cathartic about the lurid things that happen around him. I already can’t wait to watch this. Dear Ragtag, I hope you’re reading this. Just sayin’.

Watch this if you:-
- like movies with heady film ingredients such as money, power, greed, lust, a lot of sex, murder, sexually deprived and middle-aged heiress, and murder, or
- you watch random international movies from Asia on Netflix, A LOT.

Killing Them Softly
I couldn’t really find a trailer for this one. But everyone I know seems to be telling me that Brad Pitt did a really good job in this movie. Then again, I ask myself: Since when Brad Pitt doesn’t do a good job at whatever he does (statement not applicable for Mr. and Mrs. Smith).
So to all you Brad Pitters out there, here is a “Thank You” from Brad Pitt if you do watch it.

Watch this if you:
- think Brad Pitt has glorious facial hair, or
- like the fact that Brad Pitt never graduated from Mizzou.

Holy Motors.

This is one of those trailers that make you go, “What the hell just happened?” The trailer didn’t make sense, which makes me want to watch Holy Motors even more. At first I was like,
“Can someone tell me what is going on?”

And then I was like,
“Is that Eva Mendes?”

Finally I was like,
Kylie Minogue is still alive?”

My mind is so messed up from it, and no, I did not go looking for a review on it because I didn’t want to ruin the story until I figure it out for myself when I get to watch it. (hint, hint to the theaters in CoMO.)

Watch this if you:
- like the lights from Tron, or
- you are looking for a reason to hate on Eva Mendes for dating Ryan Gosling.

The Paperboy

Another film based on a book. Matthew McConaughey plays a reporter who investigates Hillary Van Wetter (John Cusack) who is on death row for murder. Nicole Kidman plays Cusack’s love interest.

Apparently Kidman does an excellent job as Charlotte Bless. I couldn’t help but to think, “Poor Nicole can’t even furrow her brows from all that Botox, and her inflated new lips are so distracting even when she says her lines perfectly.” Ah, somewhere in there, I know I still love her as an actress.

Watch this is you:
- would love to see Zac Efron infatuated with trashy-looking Nicole Kidman, watching women with things for felons, looking at John Cusack, looking at Matthew McConaughey, or
- you love an intricate plot intertwined with themes such as “interesting” sexual desires, idealistic journalism and justice.
