The newest ebook titles available for checkout at Daniel Boone Regional Library would make for great summer reading. They’re portable and beach bag-friendly companions, as long as you choose a chair that’s not within cannonball splashing range.
The library has offered ebooks, which can be used with Kindles, Nooks, Sony Readers and laptops, for more than a year now, and it frequently adds new titles to its catalog of thousands. These are some of the freshest nonfiction picks:
The Naked Foods Cookbook by Margaret Floyd and James Barry: Eat Naked author Floyd and chef Barry paired up to develop this collection of “naked” recipes free of pesticides, additives or processing.
Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden — from 9/11 to Abbottabad by Peter L. Bergen: Journalist Bergen, who also wrote Holy War, Inc., sheds some light on Osama bin Laden’s mysterious life between Sept. 11 and his death.
Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake by Anna Quindlen: In this funny memoir, Pulitzer Prize winner Quindlen shares what she’s learned about girlfriends, motherhood, middle age and more.
Bill Veeck: Baseball’s Greatest Maverick by Paul Dickson: This biography delves into the fascinating life of Bill Veeck, a baseball innovator and one of the first owners to sign an African American player.
Paris in Love: A Memoir by Eloisa James: Although this is a nonfiction book, it’s escapism at its finest. Readers can live vicariously through James, who went on sabbatical, sold her house and flew her family to Paris for a year.
Although some publishers won’t release ebooks to libraries, DBRL’s selection is still impressive. Readers can’t digitally borrow the latest Tom Clancy or Nora Roberts book, but they might find new favorites among the wealth of ebooks that are available.
