Saddle up the horses, it’s time to hit the trail for Kingdom City. Boster Castle, an outdoor venue that was built to look like a castle fortress that has also been host to the Steampunk Festival and the Central Missouri Renaissance Festival, will be the home of the Wild West Fest this weekend.
The Wild West Fest is host to everything one would come to expect at anything with such a name. Activities include kid’s scavenger hunts, horse rides, storytelling at the Kid’s Ranch, a paintball Western shootout range, archery range and a games area equipped with a giant checkerboard.
Look for a rootin’ tootin’ chili cook-off contest on Saturday at 3 p.m., as well as a pie-eating contest every day at 1 p.m. That’s gonna be a lot of pies.
Don some boots,a ten gallon hat and some chaps for the chance to be crowned best cowboy or cowgirl of the fest. There will also be a score of on-stage performances including the Sunshine Mamas , as well as comedy and magic shows.
Pick up some souvenirs before hitting the dusty path back to Columbia from one of the merchants, including Chowtime Cupcakes, Big Hungry Kettle Corn, Gunny’s Gear, and Wagon Wheel Trading.
If you or your par’dners still need some convincing just check out this video trailer for the event.
Admission to the fest is $8 per person. Children under age 5 are free. Friday is free for students. The fest runs between 10 am and 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Boster Castle.
