For many, Labor Day weekend marks the official end of summer. It also marks the last weekend you might have in a long time to relax and spend time with family and friends. And not only is this weekend a long one, but it’s also the beginning of the Mizzou football season. Whether you can’t wait to cheer on the Tigers in their new conference game, you’re looking for a way to continue the fun after the last play or you just want to get out of town while you can, here are three things you can do to ensure a relaxing and fun weekend.

If you want to get out of Columbia: Lyceum Theatre’s Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story

If you’ve decided last minute that you want to avoid Columbia all together this weekend, make your way to Arrow Rock for the last performance of Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story at Lyceum Theatre Friday, Aug. 31. Rock out to “Peggy Sue,” “Chantilly Lace,” “La Bamba,” “That’ll Be the Day,” and other Buddy Holly classics.

If you stay in Columbia: Maplewood Barn Theatre’s Wait Until Dark

If you haven’t been to Maplewood Barn Theatre yet this summer, make sure you don’t miss the last weekend of Wait Until Dark, part of the theatre’s 40th season. This play, which was also an Audrey Hepburn film, follows a blind woman who is terrorized by thugs searching her apartment. But just wait until everything changes for her attackers. The show ends Sunday, Sept. 2.

If you’re looking for something new: Columbia Art League’s House of Cards

CAL brings back one of their biggest shows with House of Cards, opening Tuesday, Aug. 28. This exhibit is an interpretation of a deck of cards, featuring 54 works full of irony and humor. The Columbia Art League is only open Tuesday through Saturday, so make sure to stop by before the weekend is over.
