Some years are better than others for hip-hop in Columbia, and 2012 is definitely on the upper end of that spectrum. With August came Curren$y, September brought Odd Future, and now with October we have Big K.R.I.T.
Known for his thick, southern beats, clever use of instrumentals and socially-conscious lyricism, K.R.I.T. was named as one of 2011′s XXL Magazine Freshmen class after first gaining notoriety with his debut mixtape, K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. Since being named a Freshman is typically a pretty solid indicator of being just, like, really, really dope, I’ve followed him ever since. And unsurprisingly: His 2011 release, Returnof4Eva actually ended up being one of my favorite albums of the year.
This year, he finally dropped his official debut album, Live From The Underground, and while Returnof4Eva still holds a special place in my heart, Live From The Underground definitely didn’t disappoint.
In advance of his Tuesday night show (Tickets are still available; buy them.) we decided to put together a little playlist to get you ready.
