It’s time to get your pride on! The 10th annual Mid-Missouri PrideFest is just around the corner — Aug. 18.
A free public event, the celebration once again reminds everyone that the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and ally community has a presence in mid-Missouri. As he was quoted on the festival’s website, spotlighted PrideFest donor and executive president of The Columbia Foundation Alfredo Mubarah puts it this way: “It’s not a celebration of the gay lifestyle, but a celebration of acceptance. It’s a good way to bring the community together and send a message that the gay community is strong and has a voice.”
Déjà Vu Comedy Club and Cherry Street are this year’s venues. Delicious Mexican and Jamaican fare, a bounce house and an inflatable obstacle course for kids, Pride Idol and the Gayest Dog Show are just a sampling of the food and activities the entire family can look forward to. And if you spot actress-singer Cher strolling — or sashaying — around town, don’t be fooled. That’s RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race winner and top Cher impersonator Chad Michaels! As always, live music will be playing and 20 booths and exhibits will be open all day.
