Auditory Processing in Children

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is often misunderstood or not diagnosed. This condition is caused by inefficient transfer of auditory signals to the auditory cortex on both sides of the brain. It can affect speech and language learning and cause difficulty acquiring academic skills.

Presenter Dr. Lisa Guillory, AuD is American Board of Audiology certified and is affiliated with Truman VA Hospital and Boone Hospital. She will cover appropriate audiologic assessment, the three primary types of APD, the causes of APD and typical recommendations for treatment and accommodation.

She will also discuss how APD may affect children's performance at school, and how other conditions such as ADD/ADHD may complicate understanding of this disorder. Parents and educators are encouraged to come learn valuable information about APD.
