Scholars will discuss how Black Atlantic music has accompanied political ideologies, social movements and independence struggles in Africa and the Diaspora. Panelists include Stephanie Shonekan, assistant professor of ethno-musicology and Black studies, who will speak in Nigerian music; Anand Prahlad, professor of English, who will speak on Jamaican music; and Maya Gibson, assistant professor of musicology, who will speak on African American music.
