Growing up on the east coast, I'm used to paying a lot for a good meal. Sometimes prices comparable to Jack's, occasionally much higher. The difference is that back east, you always get what you pay for. I know this isn't New York of Philadelphia, but when I'm paying as if I were eating in one of those cities, I still expect the great service and great food I've grown to love.
Having little experience with awful premium restaurants, I tend to judge a dining experience before I arrive based on the menu prices; after my experience at Jack’s, I won't be doing that again.
The food was ok, not great, not terrible, just ok. But the service, now that's a different story. While I was dining with a fairly large party, it was 30+ minutes before our drink order was taken, 1 hr., 15 mins. before our dinner order was taken (this process took nearly 30 mins.), almost 2 hrs. before our soup came - TWO HOURS! Based on that alone, this restaurant would last a week on the east coast... maybe. Once we finished eating, I had to ask the waiter multiple times to bring our check, and that finally came another hour later. By then, the restaurant wasn't even busy; in fact, it was completely empty with the exception of our party. All in all this was a three and a half hour dining experience, and by the time we were ready to leave, everyone was cursing out the restaurant. I left a 10% tip – I’ve never done anything like that before!
Now the food wasn’t anything to write home about – the presentation was ok, and it tasted alright. They ran out of the pompano, and during the 1 hr. + I had to contemplate my dinner selection, I have to admit, I had grown rather attached to that pompano. I settled for the trout, and requested that my dish be served without red and green peppers – the waiter confirmed, but I wasn’t expecting much by then. I’m glad I hadn’t gotten too set on enjoying my dish; of course it had the peppers. They prepared some entrees and desserts right at the table, but it’s clear the waiters are not chefs – my friend’s bananas foster was burnt on the sides, and it seemed that the waiter tried to cover it up with chocolate syrup. He made no effort to mention or apologize for the burnt dish – and it was still served.
Would I eat here again? No.
Would I recommend this restaurant to a friend? Definitely not.
Would I specifically tell my friends not to eat here? Already have.
