The Columbia Art League's latest installment, "Figuratively Speaking," celebrates the human form in a variety of media from a wide range of local and regional artists. With the advent of modern art, abstaction began to take over as fewer artists tried to paint, sculpt or otherwise depict the human body or other physical forms. But figurative art was never totally lost, and in this exhibit, Missouri artists share their contemporary interpretation of figurative forms. An opening reception will be held Thursday between 6 and 8 p.m. at the art league. The show was juried by Lampo Leong, associate professor of art at MU. The art league presents "Figuratively Speaking" as their conribution to this summer's citywide Fiber Art Tour Extravaganza (columbiafate.com), which rolls into town June 1.
