How does Vox define power? Let me count the ways. Electrical power, physical power, brain power, influential power. The list goes on. This issue is packed with power in its various manifestations, and there are so many I’ve lost count.
I’ve been on a bit of a power trip, myself. As the special issue editor, I commandeered Vox this week and switched things up. The usual departments have been muscled out by the different aspects of power that affect Columbia.
In this city, you can’t talk about power without mentioning football. Although the devastating loss in San Antonio has left Tiger morale low, “Power Ball” runs through some memorable quotes from the team’s season. But no matter what happens at the Cotton Bowl, you’ll find it’s impossible to hide your Tiger pride — you see, tigers not only have striped fur, but also striped skin. I learned that interesting tidbit and some more otherwise useless information in one of the books we suggest for those seeking the “Power of Knowledge.”
Before reading “Horse power," the only thing I knew for certain was how it felt to have one of the half-ton animals stomp on my toes. Now I’m driving my roommates crazy telling them the horse power of all our appliances. A couple other things that make people crazy are the “Power of Love” and the “Love of Power.” In instances when the two collide, look out. (Think Bridezilla.)
With all the power you’ll get out of this issue, it’s hard not to let it go to your head. So remember, with great power comes great responsibility.
