Take Two: Definitely, Maybe

Universal Studios

February 21, 2008 | 12:00 a.m. CST

A question for lovers: Should you go see Definitely, Maybe? The answer is both definitely and maybe: Definitely go see the movie and maybe relate it to past relationships as William Hayes (Ryan Reynolds) does. This film is a romantic comedy from the creators of Love, Actually and Notting Hill. It will make the audience maybe laugh, maybe cry and definitely feel for Will and his crazy life plan.

Will tells the tale of his past relationships and love life to his 10-year-old daughter, Maya Hayes (Abigail Breslin). After a chaotic sex education discussion, she becomes concerned with the story of her soon-to-be divorced parents' relationships. He tells her the story as a bedtime guessing games, where she must figure out which woman in his past is actually her mother.

Reynolds and other lead actors play both their present-day, 30-something characters and 20-something selves in flashbacks. This can be easier with girls, whose haircuts and makeup can easily be changed. Reynolds' wardrobe, hair styling and acting make him equally believable as both ages. In this movie, he's no Van Wilder or vampire from Blade: Trinity; he's the boy-next-door living life, falling in love and touching hearts.
