No Country for Old Men
Based on Cormac McCarthy’s book, Best Feature Film Oscar award-winner No Country for Old Men is a meditation on violence that masquerades as a tense thriller. In the desert, Llewelyn Moss happens upon a drug deal gone bad, where he finds a bag with more than $2 million in it. After Moss takes the loot, he is pursued by two men: aging lawman Ed Tom Bell and mop-headed sociopath Anton Chigurh.
Javier Bardem is especially compelling as Chigurh, a remorseless killer who operates on his own inscrutable moral code. But be prepared for a third act that veers unexpectedly into a reflection on the cruel machinations of fate and the inevitability of violence. “You can’t stop what’s coming,” a prophetic old man tells Sheriff Bell. “It ain’t all waiting on you. That’s vanity.”
