Serendipity, summer, Vox

May 27, 2009 | 12:00 p.m. CST

Since coming to college, I’ve worn quite a few hats: stressed student, self-proclaimed band geek, reporter, designer, roommate, friend. Many of these were expected and some were not (who knew I’d decide to do marching band when in college — not me). But least expected is the role I find myself in this summer: editor.
Had you asked me four years ago if this would be where I saw myself in my last summer in Columbia, this wouldn’t be it — I had hopes of snagging my first magazine job. Regardless, I’m excited to be serving as Vox’s editor this summer (and not paying NYC rent right now). Though it is somewhat unfamiliar to me (as is having my picture next to this letter every week), working on Vox is a great experience. Even better is the new staff we get each semester.
In addition to our new group this summer, Vox will be seeing a few more changes as well. We hope to begin to bring readers even more coverage of nightlife and entertainment in Columbia.
Until then, we’ve got plenty to occupy you, including stories about some quirky magazines (Books), a fun Warhol exhibit (Arts) and Columbia’s dirtiest jobs (Short Talk), all of which are sure to be a great way to start your summer vacation with Vox.
