MAN OF ARAN

British Sea Power

British Sea Power’s Man of Aran is a new soundtrack for the 1934 film of the same name, which is about life off the Irish coast. Drawn-out string and piano tones are accompanied by sparse melodies and occasional harmonic vocals. The track “Spearing the Sunfish” indicates a climactic scene with ominous tones culminating in an electric guitar explosion and frantic drums.

Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South

Ha Ha Tonka

Hailing from Springfield, Ha Ha Tonka perfects power-chill in its second installment, Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South. The band mixes plucked acoustics and soulful, gritty vocals with percussion you can snap to. Tonka’s songs are imbued with electric guitar charges and rich harmonies. It’s indie rock from the heartland; the spirit of the back-country with a peppy snare and some serious guitar.
