Mark Twain once wrote: “Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” One hundred years after the author’s death, Columbians are proving their fellow Missourian’s words still ring true. Boone County residents are taking the initiative to make this city a better place; Vox profiles 16 individuals and organizations that continue to gratify and astonish the community. Their influences in fields such as business, media, research, religion and beyond range from subtle to global, yet they share the common bond of doing what they love and loving what they do, thus upholding another Twainism: “Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.”
