Steals and deals from Columbia stores for the day after Thanksgiving

Forget sleeping off the turkey and stuffing — the day after Thanksgiving is for shopping.

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, and you’re prepared to happily empty out your wallet in the name of getting the best deal. Forget sleeping off the turkey and stuffing — put on your walking shoes, and grab your car keys because a tribute to consumerism this big only occurs once a year, and you can’t afford to miss it.

Although big names like Columbia Mall and Wal-Mart might be the first to pop into your mind, don’t forget the assortment of stores downtown just waiting to be blessed by your credit card. We’ve taken the initiative to map out your entire schedule for the day so you can commit all your brainpower to calculating how much money you’re saving.

Forego sleep entirely, for the sake of the children:

Toys“R”Us & Kids“R”Us (12 a.m. - 12 a.m.): 1901 Bernadette Drive, 573-446-4151 | More than 100 Black Friday “mystery deals” will be available to preview online on Wednesday. Doorbusters will be given out from midnight until 1 p.m.

You won’t want to miss these 4 a.m. deals:

JCPenney (4 a.m. - 10 p.m.): Columbia Mall, 573-445-7001 | Doorbusters will be available from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. From 3 - 11 p.m., JCPenney would like to entice customers with coupons. The store is also offering “big buys,” such as a wool and cashmere blend peacoat for $49.88, which will be excluded from coupons.

Sears (4 a.m. - 10 p.m.): Columbia Mall, 573-447-5710 | From 4 a.m. to noon, the store will offer specials. Almost everything is on sale, and there will be lots of 50% off deals.

Kohl’s (4 a.m. - 12 a.m.): 1010 East Green Meadows Road, 573-256-1188 | Kohl’s is advertising more than 300 early bird specials from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. They are available to preview online so that customers can make a shopping list.

Be here at 5 a.m.:

Walmart (sale 5 a.m. - 11 a.m.): 415 Conley Road, 573-499-4935 / 1201 Grindstone Parkway, 573-449-0815 / 3001 West Broadway, 573-445-9506 | Official ads from the major retailer say, “Our stores will match the price of any local competitor’s printed ad for an identical product,” though some restrictions apply. As usual, sales on electronics are prolific, but toys and clothing will be discounted as well.

Target (5 a.m. - 11 p.m.): Columbia Mall | The first 500 guests receive reusable Target shopping bags, and customers will get a $10 gift card with a purchase of $100 or over.

Sam’s Club (5 a.m. - 9 p.m.): 101 Conley Rd., 573-875-2979 | Like many other stores, the warehouse’s fliers are touting its good deals on electronics, but a special selling point would be the complimentary breakfast offered to Club members.

Best Buy (5 a.m. - 10 p.m.): 2001 West Worley St. | As usual, Best Buy will be offering plenty of discounts on their products, such as six free games with the purchase of an Xbox 360 Elite game console.

Get in the doors at 6 a.m.:

Columbia Mall (6 a.m. - 9 p.m.): 2300 Bernadette Drive, 573-445-8458 | Shoppers who spend $100 or more before noon can receive a $10 Shop Etc. mall gift certificate and a subscription to Martha Stewart Living magazine by bringing mall receipts to the Merry Giving Gift Zone. Only valid while supplies last.

Gamestop (sale 6 a.m. - 11 a.m.): Columbia Mall, 573-445-4699 | Holiday bundles of three free games will be available with the purchase of an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, among many other discounts on games and handheld consoles.

Make it here at 7 a.m.:

Swank Boutique (7 a.m. - 5 p.m.): 921 East Broadway, 573-256-4795 | All day, items in the store will be 30% off. From 7 to 9 a.m., purchase a sale item with a full-priced item and receive an additional 20% off the full-priced item making it 50% off; from 9 a.m. until noon buy a sale item and receive an additional 10% off any full-priced item, making it 30% off.

These places open at 8 a.m.:

Elly’s Couture (8 a.m. - 6 p.m.): 914 East Broadway, 573-499-4401 | The first 75 customers receive a free Lacoste headband.

Mustard Seed (8 a.m. - 8 p.m.): 25 S 9th St., 573-449-6166 | Customers receive 15% off all children's toys and instruments as well as 10% off a hat or pair of gloves with the purchase of a scarf.

Makes Scents (8 a.m. - 8 p.m.): 19 S 9th St., 573-445-1611 | All holiday merchandise will be 25% off, which includes all home fragrances and many holiday-themed soaps and Christmas ornaments. The store will also serve coffee and treats that morning along with some other in-store specials and gifts with purchase.

No resting allowed; progress here at 10 a.m.:

Slackers (sale 10 a.m. - noon): 1010 East Broadway, 573-442-3133 | Comics, used CDs and DVDs will be buy two get one free. Limited quantities of Spiderman 3 on Blu-Ray will be $5, board games will be 10% off, and Xbox 360 double games will be $10. In addition, a free box of theater candy comes with every purchase of $20 or more in gift certificates.

À la Campagne (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.): 918 East Broadway, 573-815-9464 | Local designer Alex L will present a jewelry trunk show of new pieces from her line, the prices of which will be discounted. She will show handcrafted jewelry made from sterling silver, semi-precious stones and fresh-water pearls.

Binghams Traditional Clothing (10 a.m.-8 p.m.): 827 East Broadway, 573-442-6397 | Cashmere top coats will be $100 off, and the “too good to be true” special will be offered: two suits, two shirts and two ties for $990, originally $1400.

It’s almost lunchtime, but you must endure for these 11 a.m. openings:

Blackberry Exchange (11 a.m. - 7 p.m.): 16 S 9th St., 573-499-0420 | Gift cards will have a 25% discount.

Dream Catcher Studio (11 a.m. - 9 p.m.): 1020 East Broadway, 573-499-1313 | Shop here and receive 10% off all day.

Now, you may relax your weary body:

Get Lost Bookshop (10 a.m. - 10 p.m.): 8 S 9th St., 573-442-3330 | As part of an informal late-night party, Get Lost Bookshop will offer food and wine.
