Close friends, Easter break, freshly powdered mountains and abundant quantities of booze. What could go wrong? Evidently everything. Dead Snow, a zombie horror film opening at Ragtag Cinema, is one film that might make college kids rethink their next mountain vacation.
As eight medical students head for the slopes of Norway in hopes of a relaxing retreat, they quickly find themselves in a spot of trouble. But in this comedic horror film, trouble isn’t a bad ski accident, it’s an unrelenting crew of crazed Nazi zombies with a mission to kill. Don’t expect the resurrection of the dead to be explained; this plot is all about bloodshed. The German subtitle of the film, Ein Zwei Die! (translated to “One Two Die!” in English) says it all.
Be ready to face a rowdy crowd of horror fans and zombie-lovers at a series of 10:30 p.m. showings starting on Dec. 9. Go alone to watch the frenzy, or bring some friends and shout at the screen with everyone else.
“It’s not something you would get to see at the local multiplex,” says Matthew Freundlich, associate programmer at Ragtag. “It’s a foreign horror film that’s an intriguing genre experiment.”
The show’s likely to induce smiles with its mix of blood and camp, but still expect to jump a few times. Nothing gets the heart pumping like some frozen Nazis.
