February 4, 2010 | 12:00 a.m. CST

THE GOOD

MONEY TALKS

Are you an entrepreneur with a good idea but no capital? University of Missouri System President Gary Forsee announced a three-year, $5 million proposal to fund Missouri start- ups in exchange for partnerships that benefit MU. The university system plans to start shelling out the dough to approved companies this fall.

THE BAD

REDUCED RECYCLING

Maybe going green isn’t catching on. According to Columbia’s Public Works Department, residential recycling in Columbia is at a standstill. The solid waste division reported a 12-pound per person decrease in household recycling last year. Where’s Captain Planet when you need him?

THE UGLY

CHICKS AT LARGE

A new ordinance allows Columbia residents to have up to six “urban hens” in their yards. Fresh eggs and poultry might sound nice, but realtors are worried that property values will drop because, honestly, not everyone wants to deal with chicken poop.
