Just because these guys have been playing since 1970 doesn’t mean they can’t still rip it on stage. Expect to hear hits such as “Listen To The Music,” “Jesus Is Just Alright,” “Rockin’ Down The Highway” and “China Grove” when The Doobie Brothers visit MU for the first time.
Although members have come and gone, the eight-piece band still periodically performs at large concert events and features original members Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston. The Doobie Brothers have established themselves as a classic American band; they have sold more than 30 million albums in the U.S. alone.
The group’s national tour will begin in Thackerville, Okla., early in March. Later the members will embark on a more extensive tour with Chicago, which will celebrate its 43rd anniversary this month. MU Concert Series Assistant Director Kimberly Earnest says MU booked The Doobie Brothers because they hadn’t played in Columbia in the past 20 years and it’s within reach of The Doobie Brothers’ Midwest tour.
Transport yourself back to the ’70s with their psychedelic rock, but be prepared for a bunch of oldies dancing like your parents –– unless you’re one of those parents, in which case, more power to you.
Expect The Doobie Brothers to take you into their arms and rock you a little while — maybe a long while. But certainly not long enough — because, c’mon, it’s The Doobie Brothers.

Back to perform another hoop and hollering show, the Harlem Globetrotters have hit the road for their 2009-2010 tour and are making a stop in Columbia along the way.
This will be the Globetrotters’ first appearance in Columbia since 2006, and those who have seen the Globetrotters remember the show to be full of shock and amusement.
“They were great,” says Malissa Peacock, who attended the 2006 show. “They could do just about anything with a basketball.”
For more than 84 years, the Globetrotters have taken to the courts competitively and theatrically. Starting in 1926, this exhibition basketball team developed a flair for entertainment as the members clowned around for audiences.
Now in 2010, the Globetrotters continue to hoop it up for their audiences while providing a fun and enjoyable show.
