Show Me The Funny Are you more likely to suffer a stomachache from laughter than whiplash from head banging? Well, this spring, Second City will leave you in stitches. Second City has trained some of the greatest comic entertainers, including Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Bill Murray and many others. This premier comedic group has multiple clubs and training centers and has toured in places such as Iraq, Kuwait and Amsterdam.
Columbia will be one of the company’s many stops on its 50th Anniversary Tour. The show includes top acts from the Chicago and Toronto theaters, and performers will also showcase their original material. “The show will consist of scenes, sketches, songs and improvisations,” says Josh Miller, the company manager for the touring companies. Scenes originally performed by Steve Carell and others will be presented as well, Miller says.
This show will not only offer great entertainment but also will display the new and upcoming comedians. So if The Office has you clutching your sides and 30 Rock leaves you teary-eyed, then this event is a must-see.

SKY-HIGH TRIBUTE TO AMERICAN VETS Honor America’s veterans by looking to the skies as Columbia Regional Airport hosts the annual Salute to Veterans Air Show. This year’s lineup includes the U.S. Marines’ AV-8B Harrier, a jet that can take off and land vertically.
Nancy Fields, media chairwoman for the event, says Columbia is fortunate to have been selected by the Marines to feature the Harrier. “They like what we do here,” she says. “We are the largest free air show in the country, and it’s strictly to honor veterans.”
Other high-flying acts and special guests, such as the P-51 Mustang Tuskegee Airmen, the Screaming Eagles Parachute Demonstration Team, the World War I Kansas City Dawn Patrol and the AeroShell Aerobatic Demonstration Team will be featured. About 30,000 people are expected to attend. Static displays will allow crowds to view and tour the inside of some planes. Get your summer off to a flying start at this free event.
