Motorcycle fever may catch on

Klinton Silvey

July 29, 2010 | 12:00 a.m. CST

If you’re having a mid-life crisis, read this issue with caution. Our feature is all about the freedom and excitement a motorcycle can bring, and you could catch bike fever. I have too many aunts and uncles who bought Harleys around age 45 to take the allure of horsepower and chrome lightly. I also have too many uncles (but not aunts) who have crashed or dropped said Harleys.

A more reasonable and much cheaper fix on reclaiming your youth might be laser tag.

I admit that being a laser tag veteran isn’t as prestigious as being a road warrior. The thought of fast-walking into someone (running is against the rules) doesn’t spike my adrenaline. But the rush I get from wielding a plastic laser gun and hunting the poor wretches who would dare shoot at me in the black-lighted darkness is actually similar to the feeling I get when I am riding a motorcycle.

Who am I kidding? Motorcycles are cool. I’ll see you on the road in a skull cap and leather chaps.
