The Guide: New Year's Eve 2010

Don't be left at home on New Year's Eve watching Dick Clark -- or, worse yet, infomericals. There's plenty to do on the last night/first morning of the year.

First Night 5K Run/Walk

Location: Race starts and ends at CyclExtreme,19 S. Sixth St.
Time: 4 p.m. December 31

Price: $20 before or on December 29, $25 on race day. Children 12 and under pay $12 or $15 in the same timeframe. Cost includes a First Night admission pass.

First Night

Price: Tickets are $8 before 4 p.m. December 31; after 4 p.m. they cost $10. Children 7 and under are admitted free. Presale locations are Gerbes, Streetside Records, the ARC and Columbia Parks and Rec. New Year's Eve sale locations are First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, the Missouri Theatre and City Hall.

First Night Columbia promises to be alcohol-free fun for all ages, with 12 venues that include a variety of performances and activities. Performances at Missouri Theatre will include an all-female Cajun band, magicians and ballet. At United Missouri Methodist Church Auditorium there will be belly dancing and St. Louis Hoop Club (a hula hooping club). The event will culminate with a fireworks show at midnight at the Boone County Courthouse Square. Here's a detailed schedule of First Night activities.

Locations include: Boone County Courthouse Square, Calvary Episcopal Church, the City Hall Building, Columbia Art League, CyclExtreme, First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts and Missouri United Methodist Church.

New Year’s Eve with The Record Collector

Time: Doors 8:30 p.m. show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Come listen to a combination of 14 people make crazy blues music. It gets loud with so many voices and is sure to be a blast.

Come watch the runner up on season four of Last Comic Standing at either 8 or 10:15. If you go to the later show, you can head downstairs for a complimentary champagne toast and one of Missouri’s largest balloon drops and confetti explosions at midnight.
