May 10, 2012 | 12:00 a.m. CST

Whether you have one mom, two, a stepmom or a mother figure, you know how important moms are. Students at Fairview Elementary School shared exactly why their moms are so special to them.

"My favorite thing about her is that she kind of plays with me and stuff. She always reminds me to not talk in the class. It’s just so hard. The great thing about probably all the kids’ moms is that if they get mad at you, they will never stop loving you." -Amelia Velazquez, 6

"Me and her go outside when it’s not raining and plant flowers. She took me to Florida. We went to go see my mom’s friends. We go to the store and buy lots of toys. She helps decorate my door with all kinds of pictures. Every week she gives me $5." -Aniya Ornt-Simms, 7

"I like when she helps me with my homework. She also helps me with my reading homework and math, and yesterday she called my friend over. Her name's Anna, and we played outside on the swings. She cooks dinner for us. My favorite is spaghetti. A few weeks ago my mom and all of my cousins and my grandparents all went to Orlando, Fla. and went to Disney World. We were there six days, I think." -Caroline Petersen, 7

"She likes to go shopping with me and I like to go shopping with her. We like to make cookies together. My other mom is pregnant. I have a sister, and she gets to be a big sister. Since my mom’s birthday is on May 3, we went shopping together, and we found a birthday present for my mom." -Carrie Antimi, 7

"She tells me she loves me no matter what. She is nice because she does nice things for me like she helps me when I’m hurt. I mean like falling down and bumping heads and stuff. Sometimes when my birthday is that day and I’m at school, sometimes she will pick me up early, and I get to go home early. " -Carter Willett, 6

"She makes me brownies after dinner and she bought me an Xbox when I was at my grandma’s house over summer. When I came back I saw I got an Xbox in my room — it’s a black one — and for Christmas I got another controller. She buys me toys. She bought me a Wii for my sixth birthday, and she bought me new shoes." -Dominque Fulton, 7

"I’m going to say that I like her cookies, the cinnamon vanilla ones. The vanilla is inside the cookie. She tucks me in at night, and she cooks dinner for us. She always watches SpongeBob with me. The first time my mom saw SpongeBob she said, 'You are watching this show!'." -Drake Delinger, 7

"She takes me to the pool. She cooks for me. My favorite is raviolis. She gets me lots of toys. My sister and my mom got me a Barbie doll that’s really flexible, and she looks like a ballerina, and she can do basically anything except for she can’t bend her knees. It’s fun when she takes me to the zoo because I’ve been to the zoo like five times." -Elizabeth Martin, 7

"My mom is special because last night my mom made my favorite dinner. The dinner is called Oily Pasta. It’s noodles and oil and some seasoning with chicken and a lot of other vegetables. My mom is also special because she helps me with homework. She also helps me pick my clothes. She’s nice." -Evyn Smith, 7

"I think my mom is special because she’s nice to me. She helps me with math problems. She’s kind to me. She brought me to the zoo at Kansas City. One time me and my mom went to Disney World when my dad was travelling to Miami. We just stayed there for two or three days. She reads a story to me when I’m going to sleep." -Gabriela de Oliveira

"My mom takes me everywhere I want. Like if I said I want to go buy a helicopter with a remote control, she has a check, and she buys it. She makes me cookies — special ones. They have chocolate in them. She helps me with my video games. She knows how to play video games — she’s good at them. All of those games, she’s good at them." -Haris Hekic, 7

"She’s the principal here. My mom is special because she helps me with my homework and she’s very, very nice. She cooks me dinner. My favorite is pasta." -Harper DeMoss, 7

"She gives me hugs and kisses. I love my mom because she loves me, and I love my mom because she plays LEGOs with me sometimes. She helps me with my homework, only when it’s hard." -Henry Brubaker, 7

"She goes to the store with me and she buys me LEGO Ninjago stuff. She cooks food for me. Sometimes if we have, like, Pizza Hut, we have Dairy Queen after that. My favorite kind is mint and chocolate M&M’s. The specialist thing is we celebrate Mother’s Day and we give her stuff." -Jacob Studer, 7

"My mom is special because she bought me suits, such as black suits, red suits, purple suits, silver suits and gold suits. I love my mom because she cooks me things. My mom is helpful because she reads me a bedtime story. My mom will always be special. She helps me with almost everything, like clean my bedroom and sometimes I wash the dishes, and she helps me with that." -Jason Stephen, 7

"She makes chocolate chip cookies for me. They are very yummy when she makes them. She reads books to me when my dad doesn’t feel like reading. Sometimes my mom takes me to Hy-Vee for dinner. She takes me and my brother to Six Flags." -Leif Kammer, 7

"She’s really special because she gets my clothes, she gets me to movies, she takes me to school — sometimes she even helps me get my clothes on. She helps me clean my room because a lot of the time it’s really messy. She does a lot. She turns on the TV if I don’t know what to do. One time she even took me to a Mizzou football game. And when I’m really cold, she goes in my room and tucks me in. A lot of times she took me to St. Louis to see my grandparents." -Miles Baker, 8

"She cleans out my room, and she picks up my dirty clothes. I help her clean out her room every day, too. She also makes me bacon." -Mirakel Hill, 6

"I love my mom because my mom is nice. My mom is pretty. I play with mom. I love my mom because she takes care of animals. I love mom." -Rayleigh Li, 6

"Sometimes she goes out to eat Shakespeare’s with us. A long time ago we went to Florida and I think we stayed there for six nights. Sometimes in the summer we go to the pool." -Travis McCarty, 6

"She takes me to different places I’ve never been before, like to Chicago or Tiger Tots. She takes care of you, and she’s very special because she helps you with math. Mostly she’s glad that she had you when you were born. And we went to get a Star Wars helmet and a lightsaber." -Westin Archer, 7
