There are more than 100 different BC (Boone County) Baseball league teams (ages 8-18) for the 2012 spring season. This shows the huge spike in popularity the league has experienced, considering last year it only had 46 teams. Each team comes up with its own name. Take for example the Jefferson City Vipers, the Show-Me Sluggers and of course the Southern Boone Slammers.
BC Baseball has been hosting baseball leagues and tournaments in Columbia since 1993. The parent-founded, nonprofit league encourages athletic participation at a competitive level. More information is available at bcbaseball.org.
The BC Baseball Academy offers private lessons on hitting, pitching and defense, to help continue baseball players’ development during the off-season.
More than 80 percent of players from central Missouri high school teams have played for BC Baseball. Clearly, the league is doing a good job training the batters, pitchers and catchers of tomorrow.
Jefferson City native Sam LeCure played on a BC team back in the day. Now he’s a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds.
