Movie Review: Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

The animals of Madagascar are still on their journey to the Big Apple

Paramount/Dreamworks

June 9, 2012 | 12:00 p.m. CST

The circus has come to town and the zoo animals from Madagascar don’t quite fit in.

Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, Marty the zebra and Melman the giraffe are still on their mission to get back home. After scuba diving to Monte Carlo and scaling the rooftops of the casino, the animals find their companions King Julien, Maurice and the penguins.

When police hear that there were animals in the casino, they know exactly who to call. The evil Captain Chantel DuBois, known for hunting animals, plans to capture Alex who's voiced by Ben Stiller. As DuBois hilariously sniffs on all fours to find Alex and the animals, they come upon a circus train. Russian tiger, Vitaly, who is in charge of the circus is anything but welcoming, but the animals persuade him to let them on the train and join him.

The Euro circus they joined, however, lacks talent and enthusiasm. Alex teaches the animals new acts to perform for their next show because talent scouts will be attending it. He hopes it will lead the animals to perform in New York, and get them back home.

The creativity when the animals perform their new circus acts is beyond excellent. The colors are bold and the shapes are appealing, which catches the attention of kids. Adults will find a few good laughs in the film from characters such as Marty who flaunts a rainbow afro and sings, and King Julien who falls in love with a plump bear from the circus.

The plot of the story could have been a bit more organized at the beginning when they were traveling to Monte Carlo. The film is worth seeing for it’s advanced animation and humor if you can make it through the first 10 minutes and get to the circus part of the film.
