If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you’d be doing?
I’d probably be a mechanic. That’s what my father did. At one point I had to decide if I was either going to do what he did or keep playing music.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
Either RZA from the Wu Tang Clan or Jeff Tweedy.

What are two things you cannot tour without?
Well, I brought a banjo on this tour, and I can’t see myself touring again without it. Also, I’ve been running a lot, so I’d say a pair of running shoes.
If you could describe your band in three words, what would they be?
Punctual, different — I don’t think if you met us individually you would ever think we’d be in a band together — and hairy; we’re from Oregon, so there’s an abundance of beard hair.
What is your favorite concert you’ve ever been to?
Probably either Merle Haggard, who I saw about five years ago, or Beck, who I saw in either ’94 or ’95.
What album is currently playing on your iPod?
Okie by J.J. Cale. It’s such an amazing record, and I just love it.
