Business: Trey Bistro
Location: 21 N. Ninth St.
Opening date: Aug. 21
What it offers: Opening right next to The Blue Note, this bistro-style restaurant will have a wide menu variety to satisfy most customers. Chef Trey Quinlan will be simplifying old world Italian, German, Irish and Midwestern meals. He also says he will be using local produce as much as possible.

Business: Smokehouse Bar-B-Que
Location: 403 N. Stadium Blvd.
Opening date: End of 2012 or beginning of 2013
What it offers: This Kansas City barbecue joint has been open for 25 years, and Columbia will be the fifth location. It offers lunch and dinner as well as catering and delivery services.

Business: Cheddar’s Casual Cafe
Location: 1010 I-70 Drive S.W.
Opening date: Mid-October
What it offers: This homestyle chain restaurant is usually just known as Cheddar’s. It offers high-quality, made-from-scratch food, such as shepherd’s pie at a fair price. Its menu varies by location.

Business: Lutz’s Barbecue
Location: 200 E. Nifong Blvd.
Opening date: Late August
What it offers: Owner Burl Lutz is bringing his famous Jefferson City barbecue to Columbia. It has all the traditional favorites such as burnt ends, pulled pork and chicken. One of Lutz’s signature foods is its hand-cut chips made right at the restaurant.

Business: Ronald McDonald House
Location: 3501 Lansing Ave.
Opening date: Phase 1 will be done by the end of September. Phase 2 will start as soon as fundraising proceeds come in.
What it offers: The new Ronald McDonald House location will have 18 bedrooms, private bathrooms, a covered entryway and plenty of parking. It will act as a home away from home for families of seriously ill and injured children. The building is nearly twice as large as the old facility, which will allow for more families to stay there.

Business: Panera Bread
Location: Broadway Plaza
Opening date: Sometime this winter
What it offers: Some call it Panera; others call it St. Louis Bread Co. Either way, Columbians will get to experience a new Panera location to grab a bagel, enjoy a cup of soup or get a salad.

Business: Shakespeare’s Pizza
Location: 3911 Peachtree Drive
Opening date: Grand opening around August 25; open to the public July 25
What it offers: The new location has a 175-seat party room. On the grand opening day, there will be hot air balloon tethered rides, petty cab rides around the parking lot, raffles and a fundraising event where 15 percent of the day’s proceeds will go to the new Ronald McDonald’s House. The evening will bring a trade show from all their vendors, such as Boulevard and Budweiser as well as other beer and spirits. The Stonethrowers will be performing in the evening at the parking for the bar crowd.

Business: Clarkson Eye Care
Location: 1020 E. Green Meadows Rd
Opening date: Monday, July 9; grand opening on the 30th
What it offers: Clarkson provides eyeglasses, eye exams and lenses in the Green Meadows store. It takes most forms of insurance and is one of three Columbia providers who accept Medicaid.

Business: Rally House
Location: 808 E. Broadway
Opening date: July 27
What it offers: Rally House provides a wide variety of sports memorabilia and clothing from teams such as the St. Louis Cardinals, MU Tigers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Rally House will be taking over the former location of Cool Stuff. There was initial controversy over this business opening downtown because it is owned by KU alumnis, but now that Mizzou has moved to the SEC, the rivalry has cooled off a bit.
