Vox digital editor Francesca Hecker puts together some winter tunes for every mood.

Winter is a time of love and cheer, but also stress and seasonal depression. Luckily, music can help us get through most things — even through winter in Missouri. So while you're freaking out over the top your sister wanted being out of stock or hanging out with a small group of friends, here are some playlists to match your winter mood.

Sitting by the Fire

Cozy up to some smooth sounds with this playlist.

Featured Songs:

"The Christmas Waltz" by She & Him: Originally performed by Frank Sinatra, this song is a mellow Christmas classic. Zooey Deschanel of She & Him uses her quirky flare to make this the perfect song to listen to as you curl up by the fire.

"Our House" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: I don't know about anybody else but this song makes me sob. The song — which Graham Nash wrote about Joni Mitchell who's also featured on this playlist — tells us to find the extraordinary within the ordinary, something we all need a reminder of.

Frantically Holiday Shopping

Don't get stressed; get hype.

Featured Songs:

"Father Christmas" by The Kinks: Nothing says "Happy Holidays" quite like this song about a mall Santa getting beat up by teenagers. Although you won't be fighting through hoards of people at a shopping center this year, gift shopping is still difficult. Make sure you have a song that sounds just as frazzled as you.

"Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin: So, I have a list of songs that I can't listen to while I drive or else I'll start speeding — this song is on that list. But sometimes you just need a song that sounds like you're on a mission even though you're really just going to Yankee Candle's winter sale.

Having an Existential Crisis

We've all been there, and it's going to be OK. Sometimes you just need to lay on the ground and stare up at the ceiling.

Featured Songs:

"Us and Them" by Pink Floyd": This song is about the madness of many of our earthly problems. It's the perfect song to listen to while you're cooped up at home and have plenty of time to ponder existence.

"Strange Encounter" by Father John Misty: No encounter is more strange than running into someone you went to high school with. Have fun thinking about that awkward exchange for the next few days.

Hanging Out With Friends

Just because we're only able to see friends in small groups doesn't make getting passed the aux any less stressful. Let us take care of it.

Featured Songs:

"By the Windowpane" by Club Kuru: This song was inspired by one of the group's members who would sit by their window each morning to people watch. Naturally, this groovy song is perfect for lounging around with a couple friends.

"This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" by Talking Heads: This smooth sound was uncharacteristic of the group, it being David Byrne's first crack at a love song. It's a versatile piece that can be the soundtrack to a boozy evening or a quiet, chill one.
