Lunch in the Park is back again this summer. This program is provided by the Columbia/Boone Health Department and the City of Columbia. Lunch in the Park runs June 1 through July 31, Monday – Friday from 11:30-1:00 pm at Douglas Park.

This year the meals are make and take. The volunteers with prepare the lunches when the children arrive and they are able to take the food and leave. They are not required to stay and eat in the park as in previous years.

Something new and exciting this year is the addition of HOT meals. On Tuesdays and Thursdays during the program, attendees will be given a HOT lunch like a hamburger.

“For the past 19 years, the partnership between the City of Columbia, Columbia Public Schools and VAC has been wonderful. This is a program that all partners are proud of and volunteers sign up for year after year. Lunch in the Park is a wonderful and much needed service to the community during the summer.”   Erin Harris, Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services

VAC – Voluntary Action Center provides the volunteers to hand out the meals and provide activities to those who stick around and eat their lunch in the park. All the volunteers are following the necessary guidelines as provided by the Health Department. We want everyone involved with this event to remain healthy and provide examples of being respectful of others around us.
