Thanksgiving dinner

A few restaurants in Columbia will still be open during Thanksgiving to offer Thanksgiving meals to families.

Thanksgiving is around the corner, and my stomach is ready for all the food to come. Although turkey is traditionally the main course, a Thanksgiving dinner isn't complete without the side dishes. Sweet potato casserole, green beans, homemade rolls, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and stuffing... where was I?

If you're like me, spending the whole day preparing dishes isn't my definition of fun. Here's one more thing to be thankful for: the local restaurants and grocery stores offering ready-made meals and saving people from tedious hours in the kitchen. Whether you want to spend time relaxing with your family or are simply too lazy to cook, here are some places in Columbia that can save you the Thanksgiving hassle.

Grand Cru

Grand Cru Restaurant will be open on Thanksgiving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering its annual buffet. You'll find a variety of dishes, such as turkey, prime ribs, green beans casserole, sweet potato casserole and various festive pies. Although reservations aren't required, the restaurant is always full of folks who prefer to enjoy a fuss-free feast.

Glenn's Cafe

Glenn's Cafe is offering a limited menu from noon to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. They'll serve a set menu of roasted turkey, your choice of stuffing and pumpkin, pecan, apple or cherry pie. They also have a vegetarian option with a Southern black bean burger. Other than entrees, parties can order shareable plates such as corn bread fries, crawfish popcorn and deviled eggs.

11 Eleven

The restaurant inside The Broadway Hotel is offering a Thanksgiving day buffet for guests from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The buffet will feature different traditional Thanksgiving foods such as roasted turkey, honey baked ham, potatoes, casseroles and deviled eggs. However, it's reservation only, so make sure you book ahead.

Grocery stores

Get the same kind of fresh pre-made Thanksgiving meal from your local HyVee. There's a selection of packages, with portions ranging 4 to 20 people. You can choose from the classic turkey or ham dinner, or mix it up with lasagna or chicken alfredo. If you want to impress your guests by going the extra mile, HyVee even offers suggestions for the best wine to pair with each dinner package.
