The perception of climate change has varied from a solidified concept among the science community to a wavering issue among the public over time. The new administration has largely denounced climate change as a hoax, as well as withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Accord. However, nonprofit groups such as Columbia’s Peaceworks continue to raise awareness and funds in support. They did so Sunday, September 24, 2017, during the organization’s annual Walk For the Climate. Heather Akin, who has done science communication research for the Annenberg Public Policy Center, breaks down how the media, political figures and more have influenced this shifting view over time.
